The Tundra

Climate:

The tundra is a cold place with no trees that always as a layer of permafrost beneath the surface. In the summer,temperatures range from 20 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit and the sun never sets. In the winter, it can be anywhere from -30 to 20 degrees.

Annual Rainfall:

Only about 6-10 inches of rain falls in the tundra per year. This includes melted snow, so be prepared for not much rain at all if you take a trip there.

Local Wildlife:

The tundra is home to Arctic Foxes, Caribou, Ermines,Grizzly Bears, Harlequin Ducks, Musk Ox, Polar Bears, and Snowy Owls. These and other animals share a habitat with a variety of vegetation such as Arctic Moss, Arctic Willow, Bearberry, Caribou Moss, Diamond Leaf Willow, Labrador Tea, Pasque Flowers, and Tufted Saxifrage. The tundra is a very interesting place, as you have probably noticed.
